VETERAN FISHING RETREATS. 22 veterans commit suicide each day. Emotional precursors precede suicide events including loneliness, isolation, hopelessness, and depression. The #1 way to reduce suicide rates amongst veterans is to gather them into social situations with each other.
Queenslake has partnered with Kentucky Wounded Heroes and Woodford Warriors to welcome large groups of veterans to Queenslake for multi-day fishing retreats. Veterans are invited to fish the 40 acre prize fishing lake centrally located on our 140 acre working horse farm. They are provided meals, lodging, and transportation to and from hotels.
VETERANS LODGE
In 2022, Queenslake is building a fishing lodge on Queenslake to support these veterans while they are on property for fishing retreats. We are actively seeking donors, sponsors, and volunteers to help with materials and construction of the lodge.
2. MOGADISHU MILE. On October 3rd, 1993, members of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and 1st SFOD-D (Delta Force), supported by pilots from the 160th Aviation Regiment (Nightstalkers) and other SF units, went into the city of Mogadishu, Somalia to execute Operation ‘Gothic Serpent’ to apprehend key players in Mohammed Farrah Aidid’s dictatorship. Two aircraft were shot down, forever coining the phrase ‘Blackhawk Down’. Rangers and Deltas, scattered at several locations throughout the city, under heavy fire and low on supplies, held their positions until the morning. As help arrived, the armored vehicles could not accommodate all of the soldiers. The rest began their exit to a rally point on foot, under heavy fire, wounded, dehydrated and sleep deprived. This has become known as the “Mogadishu Mile”.
Queenslake hosts a military fitness competition on the first Saturday in October called the “Mogadishu Mile” Each year, we welcome participants, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators to honor the soldiers of the Battle of Mogadishu and to pay tribute to the 19 soldiers who died.
